  3. My job is making changes for a client...

  4. We are focused on the past or fixing problems...

  5. We are burdened by "should've" or self-criticism...

  6. I am only here to give advice...

  7. I am the expert...

  8. I bring preconceived notions to fix you...

BECAUSE:
  1. ...I am meant to guide clients as they choose for themselves.

  2. ...the client is the one in charge of deciding.

  3. ...I help them adapt and change appropriately for their needs.

  4. ...our main focus is on next steps and moving forward.

  5. ...all of us have areas of growth.

  6. ...I help the client discover what they need and want to do.

  7. ...I let the client be the expert on their life.

  8. ...I learn the story of each individual.

When discussing the role of coaching with others, many people have misconceptions about the differences between coaching and counseling. It is important to know the difference and the focus of goalsetting.
